Tasting Notes
Our Chardonnay has a distinct smoky and toasty character with a palate showing refreshing citrus and ripe stone fruit with a buttery finish.
Vineyard Notes
The Greenleaf Chardonnay block was established in 2001 over 1.8 hectares with three Bernard clones 76, 95 and 96. Those clones were selected for their zesty but yet complex characteristics, adding texture and elegance to our Chardonnay.
Planted on a northerly aspect at 425-460 metres in altitude these are our highest, creating a thick canopy to allow high-quality cool-climate fruit during vintage.
Production Notes
Our Chardonnay was handpicked and whole bunch pressed. After press, the juice was separated from the grape solids, helping to improve the clarity before fermentation and the adding of the yeast, keeping the flavours purer and fruit-driven.
It was then barrel fermented in new (33%) and one-year-old French oak and left on lees for 9 months giving structure and complexity to the wine.
